This policy describes how Speja, an outdoor tracking app for Android, handles information when you use the app.
Package name: se.tomit.speja. Last updated: 15 August 2026.
Summary
Speja records GPS routes and field observations on your device.
No registered data leaves the app to Speja. We do not sell your data or use third-party analytics.
Location is used for the map and track recording while you use the app.
Delete tracks, observations, and Speja photos in the app: More → Delete all local data — see Delete your data.
Data we process
Stored on your device
Location (precise) — for map position and GPS track recording
Tracks and routes — points recorded while tracking
Observations — Flora, Fauna, and Terrain markers you create
Photos and audio — saved in your gallery (photos under Pictures/Speja). Speja stores a link on the observation, not a copy on Speja servers
App settings — e.g. language and tracking preferences
Registered tracks, observations, photos, and audio are not sent to Speja.
They stay on your device until you delete them in the app.
Sent over the network
Map basemap tiles — from OpenStreetMap and Lantmäteriet (Sweden) when you use the map. Requests go to those providers under their policies.
Minimum app version check — Speja may contact tomit.se/speja in the background to read a version requirement. This request does not include your tracks or observations. If the server is unreachable, the app continues to work.
What we do not do
No advertising identifiers or third-party analytics SDKs in the app
No sale of personal data
No sharing of your live location with other Speja users in the current release
No background location access without the app in use — track recording uses a visible foreground notification
Permissions
Location — map and GPS recording
Camera and photos — attach images to observations; on Android 14+ you may grant access to selected photos only
Notifications — status while a track is recording (Android 13+)
Internet — map tiles and optional server checks
Legal bases and purposes
We process data to provide the app’s core functionality: outdoor tracking, mapping,
and recording observations. Where EU/EEA law applies, processing is based on
performance of the service you request and, where relevant, your choices in the app.
Retention
Device data is kept until you delete it with More → Delete all local data.
See Delete your data for steps.
Security
Network communication with our servers and standard map tile providers uses HTTPS where supported.
Children
Speja is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change.
The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly.
